The River Cometh

Xavier Thames re-ups on his commitment to go to the greatest university ever.

Two down, one giant Motum to go.

We’ll have more on the promise of our basketball program in the next week or so.

Now, onto the Moron.

I was jacked when i heard the news about Xavier staying. I really didnt think he would once bennett left but Bone must have made quite a first impression. I was a skeptic of the hire at first but with this I can start to jump on board with the decision. I think it shows a lot about the character of our new coach, and his dedication to our program (flying to cali, then down to Australia in a week or two). Im going to go out on a limb and say that I think we may be better off with bone than with Bennett…

Where’s the guy who said he’d buy UW tickets if Xavier Thames still came to WSU?

    Jimmy Mac said…

No that’s not a fact about Thames, just my opinion. But I’ll buy season tickets to Husky Football if Bone manages to keep Thames. And I certainly hope Bone turns out like Montgomery, it’s just recruiting to WSU is a hell of a lot harder than recruiting to Stanford.

You can probably find out how to buy at….plenty of seats are still available.

Seriously, Jimmy Mac, whoever you are, I think we’ll let you off the hook. THIS TIME!

GREAT NEWS. Great get(keep?) by Bone. And now we’ll get to see a top-20 point guard come in and compete immediately under a new coach/system.

If you want some highlights of Thames, check this out:

Although, you’ll hear the commentator refer to Tony Bennett’s “fast paced offensive system”….? Okay then.

    Jimmy Mac –

Take that UW football ticket money and donate it to the Athletic Foundation or the Basketball Excellence Fund.

    thanks in advance.

Ok, I’m slowly starting to believe in this Ken Bone fella… (and if I’m wrong about him, I will GLADLY admit it)

I’m not on it yet, but please reserve a seat for me on the Boner Bandwagon.

Wow – great news. Met Ken last night at the alumni gathering for the Blazer game. He said himself at 5:30 that he felt pretty good about X, but he wasn’t sure. He said Florida, LSU, UCLA, USC, Arizona, and ASU would after him hard, especially Zona.

Bone is much taller than I thought – he’s at least 6-6, maybe 6-7. He looked tired, but turned it on when he had to speak. He and Johnson are heading to Australia tomorrow to visit Motum.

  6. Lucas Says:

Where are all the peeps who said Bone can’t recruit?

One thing I thought was funny, when Bennett left WSU, Thames went from a 4 star to a 3 star recruit on Scout

  7. Lucas Says:

On top of Pellum getting arrested over the weekend, I noticed in the Evergreen that Michael Willis got a DUI.

  8. Sedihawk Says:

I wonder why they dropped the star Lucas? To suggest that because Bennett left the building, that he suddenly “ain’t all that”? That is stupid/bizarre!

Good to hear that about Bone, Kaddy.

I really think that with Brown and now Thames from this class, plus the entire roster coming back, AND Johnson back on the staff? Can’t help but like our odds with Motum. If losing Tony Bennett means we only lose Chadwick in terms of player personnel, that’s a pretty big deal.

Early signing period starts tomorrow I believe. Since Chadwick has been let out of his scholie, does that mean the hoops team can now go out and try and sign someone? I have no idea how those rules work with hoops and the early signing period stuff. Anyone know?

  9. BornCoug Says:

Grippi made an interesting comment in his blog that WSU had an ’09 committment under Bennett for the spring signing period. Apparently that has probably fallen through. I would love to know who that player was!

Also, it seems possible that Mark MacLaughlin could end up at WSU. Probably a relatively low probability but it makes some sense.

  10. Lucas Says:

Per Cougfan, that played I believe was Patrick Simon, the kid who committed to TB in 9th grade. So if we lose Chadwick and Simon, then we have two available scholies for the 2010 class.

Also heard a rumor that Fabian Boeke might be hanging up his high tops, which would open another one up. So as of now, we have one scholie that could be filled for this current 2009 class (Chadwick).

But if we don’t fill that spot, we could have anywhere from one to three for next year. Seeing as how two weeks ago, we had zero available scholies until 2011, that isn’t a bad thing.

Wouldn’t strap Bone to be stuck with guys he doesn’t want.

Sedi, the star-rating system is a joke. There was a football 1* recruit a few years back that had committed to UW. Come signing day, he chose USC and instantly became a 4* over night. Gee, I wonder why that happened. If that’s not enough, take a look at Notre Dame’s recruiting class year after year. They are consistently top-10. Basically these recruits are getting high star-rankings because of the school’s recruiting them, not because of their talent.
